Preparing Bridegroom Speeches
As the groom, you will have to give a speech. Once you and your fiancé have agreed on a date for the wedding, you should already be planning your speech. By preparing early, you will be able to refine your speech, practice it and because you are prepared, be able to deliver it without being a bundle of nerves. Don`t think you can wing it at the last minute. If you do, it might be memorable but for the wrong reasons. Preparation before hand will give you the best shot at delivering a smooth and memorable speech. Remember to give a speech that is both endearing and entertaining for your guests.
The basic structure of good bridegroom speeches should follow these guidelines:
Deliver bridegroom speeches from a standing position. Smile and show your confidence. Let your happiness and excitement show and make your bride feel proud of you.
Make sure you are sober when you give your speech you don`t want to make a fool of yourself and embarrass your bride and guests.
Like most speeches, bridegroom speeches need the following elements:
Introduction:
This can consist of thanking everyone, especially parents, bride, bridesmaids and people involved in getting the wedding off the ground.
Middle:
This is where you relate stories, experiences and jokes,
Ending:
Try to make the conclusion of your speech memorable. Propose a toast to your new wife and thank her for agreeing to share the rest of her with you. It`s not necessary to make the speech long. It`s better to concentrate on shorter anecdotes. About 3 minutes to a maximum of 10 minutes for your speech is sufficient.
Put sincerity into your voice, the audience will relate better to sincerity then mouthing platitudes that are meaningless. Smile not only with your lips but also with your eyes. Let your happiness show.
Under no circumstances forget to thank your new in-laws. You can thank them for their kindness and assure them you will do your best to look after their daughter and thank them for allowing you to become a part of their family.
Do remember to complement your bride on how wonderful she looks and thank her publicly for agreeing to be your wife. It would be appropriate to relate some funny snippets or incidents that while you were dating. Never ever disclose anything distasteful regarding your bride.
You can quote some one liners, a poem, a favorite song (you could sing it if your voice is good) or any other meaningful memories of your dating days.
All bridegroom speeches should close with a special toast to future happiness.
If you want to give a speech that is correct and professional then practice your delivery. Make it even toned, not too hesitant or too quick. You achieve this by pacing your self. You want it to flow smoothly. Practicing is important.
